Water Conservation School PROGRAM

Educating the next generation on how to save water in their own homes is vital to preventing land subsidence. Explore the local school program and then scroll down for fun regional resources.

Formerly known as the WaterWise program, our new and improved water conservation school program, now called H2O LAB!, provides locally-based water education to 3rd through 6th-grade classrooms in Fort Bend, Galveston, and Harris counties at no cost to the teachers or students. The TEKS-aligned lessons allow teachers to easily integrate the program into their classroom. Material and resources are available through the program’s secure, online web application where teachers have access to on-demand tutorials, can download digital lesson plans in multiple languages, as well as can track student activities and assessment data submitted through the online portal. Both teachers and students have exciting opportunities to win cool prizes as they complete activities and also receive a free take-home water conservation kit filled with products that can be used to save water at home.

The goal of the program is to educate students to value water in our region, provide tools and resources to help families practice water-saving habits, as well as raise awareness about subsidence and ways to prevent it. This program is made available through sponsorships from local water providers and businesses.

Water Conservation Activities with Kids

Below are tools to show kids ways to make every drop count! Geared towards teachers, educators, and parents, engage learners of all ages with these water learning activities.

Water is a valuable resource that is often mistreated and misused because of the misconception that it will just go through the water cycle to be “renewed.” Students understanding where water comes from and its uses is imperative both for education requirements and for encouraging lifelong water conservation behavior.

Let’s teach the future generation the value of our water resources and empower them through education to build a better future. Incorporate some of these activities and resources into your classroom to make learning about water more interesting and engaging!
