About the program

The Water Conservation School Program, H2O Lab!, provides 3rd-6th grade students in Harris, Galveston, and Fort Bend counties with quality, age-appropriate water education. Each child that participates receives a free water conservation kit. The products in the kit are specifically selected to encourage water efficiency at home and engage families with activities that support and reinforce the lessons taught at school.

For Teachers

The Water Conservation School Program provides teachers with lesson plans, on-demand tutorials, videos, and interactive activities to educate students about water, including how we get water, how we use water, and water resources in Texas. This curriculum empowers them to save water through project-based learning and hands-on activities.

This specially tailored version of the national WaterWise Program’s innovative classroom experience:

  • Aligns with TEKS requirements
  • Contains hands-on laboratory STEM components
  • Demonstrates Texas’ water industry from the sources to the tap
  • Explains the need to conserve and protect water resources
  • Provides companion videos
  • Opportunities to win prizes and classroom grants!

The Harris-Galveston Subsidence District and the Fort Bend Subsidence District have partnered with local cities, regional water authorities, municipal utility districts (MUDs), and other water industry professionals to make the Water Conservation School Program available to students in our region.

  • If you are an individual or business interested in sponsoring, please submit a sponsorship form. 
  • If you are a water provider, such as a city or Municipal Utility District, interested in sponsoring must enter into an Interlocal Agreement with the District. For more information, please email our Water Conservation Program or refer to our general information letter.
