Surprise! Grass typically doesn’t need to be watered every day. In fact, as much as 50 percent of water used outdoors can be wasted due to overwatering caused by inefficiencies in irrigation methods and systems.

Follow these tips and get smarter about water(ing):

  1. Water your lawn before 10 a.m. or early in the morning
Water when the temperatures are cooler or when the wind is not blowing. Running your sprinklers during the hottest time of the day causes water to evaporate before it even reaches the turf. (Fun fact – grass is also known as turf!)
  2. Use WaterMyYard.org to get personalized watering recommendations
WaterMyYard.org is a free website and app that uses local weather data to help you water less, and keep your yard beautiful. With eight main weather stations throughout the Gulf Coast region, the app generates personalized, weekly watering recommendations specific for your area. 3. Pay Attention to Water Run-off
Are you watering the recommended amount and still seeing run-off or water puddles in your yard? Try the Cycle and Soak method. Divide your sprinkler runtime into 2 or 3 smaller cycles. For best results, a soak time of at least 1 hour between cycles is recommended.
